Episode 24 - Enjoying the A.I. Summer with @christianDHubbs

Artificially Intelligent Host Christian Hubbs talks to Max about what he's learning in the field of AI through his work. Industries and use cases for AI. When are self driving cars coming? And - what is the endgame for humans and machines. We also talk about Christian's interest in reinforcement learning, and how that's being used to have computers play games like go.

We also talked about the coming AI Winters, which is something that Christian discusses on his podcast. Given that it’s also an economics business podcast, the business cycles does feature prominently in Artificially Intelligent. The AI winter could also be thought of as a research and hype cycle. Research topics do go in and out of fashion in academia, and the cycle of inflated expectations for new technology is well-known. AI has been though this several times.

But I’m calling this episode “enjoying the AI summer” because both AI and the weather outside is hot right now. Hopefully we’ll get to reap some harvests in the autumn before AI winter sets in.

I mentioned Rakka Chocolate in Red Hook. As far as I know, their machinery doesn’t use image detection – but I remember talking about it on the tour (maybe it was a future possibility).

I also mentioned AI being used to grow lettuce, but I didn’t have the details. Well, the details are in this article, and the company is Blue River Technology which builds AI for agriculture.
